This beam when completed will be used to transform a steel mill ladle crane into a maintenance crane.
(Left)The hook for this lifting beam will be a 200 to capacity shank hook manufactured by The Crosby Group. This hook weights 1020 lbs. and stands 4'2" tall

These pieces of 10" diameter bar
stock will be the lifting trunnions
for this beam.

Here Mike has laid out and is
ready to cut the access hole for the
hook nut and bearing.

Here we have one of the trunnions
finish welded to through the end cap

This beam when completed will be used to transform a steel mill ladle crane into a maintance crane.

Here is the start of the lay out of the beam itself.
The center hole in the bottom plate is for the hook.
A 6" plate with bearing seat will be placed on this base plate.

After the turnions have been placed the bearing seat and one side are put in place and tack welded. Then the fun begins. There will be over 100 lbs.
of weld wire in this lifting beam.

Hello Mike!!! This picture will help give you some perspective.
The bearing seat under Mike's head is 6" plat.
End plates on the trunnions are 2" plate.

The second side is set in place after the inside is welded.
This beam is gaining weight by the minute!!!!
