200 Ton LIFTING BEAM FABRICATION cont.

TODAY THE GUYS AT ALL-LIFTS, INC. ARE PREPARING THE BEAM, FINISHING THE LAYOUT AND SET UP OF THE OTHER PARTS FOR WELDING.

(Left) Drilling the adjustment holes for the lifting lugs. A total of 52 holes in the top of the beam 2-1/16" diameter. Each hole takes 18 minutes to drill.
You want to talk about a boring job, sit and watch this all day.

(Below) Just so you have an idea how big this stuff is, these trunnions are 11" in diameter and the plate is 24 inches
square and 2" thick. The gap under the trunnion will be full penetration welded to the plate.

(Below)Here you see the top lug and the bottom lugs. The markings on the end of the beam will be beveled.
This will allow Mike M and Mike S to full penetration weld the trunnion plates to these beams.
The threaded hole in the one on the right is 2-1/2" diameter and will allow the lug to be adjusted on the beam to assure a level lift.

This welding system allowed the two Mike's to put down 3500 feet of weld and 250 lbs
of weld wire in 5 days. Four corners of beam 27 passes total on each corner.

NOW THAT'S PRODUCTION!!
