Wire Rope Slings Inspection and Care

1. Wire rope slings shall not be used in excess of the working load limit.

2.  Remove from service if the following conditions are present :

A. Ten randomly distributed broken wires in one rope lay, or five broken wires in one strand in one rope lay.
B. Wear or scraping of outside wires reducing the individual wire diameter by 1/3
C. Kinking, Crushing, Bird Caging or any other damage resulting in distortion of the wire rope structure.
D. Evidence of heat damage.
E. End attachments Cracked, Deformed, or Worn.
F. Corrosion of rope or end attachments.

Make sure you order Flemish splice slings. This type of splice may be a little more expensive but it is the safest splice available. Attaining up to 85% of the breaking strength of the  wire rope prior to the sleeve being pressed.
